Release 10.1A: OpenEdge Getting Started:
Welcome to Release 10

Integration capabilities at the core

A service-oriented architecture (SOA) is all about a new way of conceptualizing, developing, and deploying applications as a collection of business logic components available as services. Unlike past application architectures that bounded entities comprised of individual processes that execute business logic, a service-oriented architecture enables business solutions through process-to-process integration within a single enterprise or across enterprise boundaries. OpenEdge 10 is all about designing, building, and deploying fully distributable, service-based applications with integration capabilities at their very core.

With the capabilities that OpenEdge 10 provides—like increased Open Client support, a stronger SQL interface, process-level integration via Web services, and full Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) enablement—you have a complete SOA approach for developing current and future mission-critical applications.
